download audiobooks and ebooks from the Maine infonet download library

Find out how to download and read or listen to books and audiobooks on your device with Overdrive Help.

general information: download ebooks

  • Click on the "Download" Library link on the apl website or go directly to download.maineinfonet.org.
  •  Most ereaders and smart phones are compatible, see the Overdrive Device Resource Center for a full list.
  • Read books in your browser without downloading software with Overdrive Read.
  • Always Login First! With Overdrive Advantage, there is a small but growing collection of ebooks just for APL cardholders. This means shorter waits for popular titles, and more titles to choose from. You will only see these titles when you are logged in with your APL card, so always login first!
  • You may have up to three books checked out at the same time, for seven or fourteen days. eBooks can be returned early.
  • Place holds on books you would like to read if they are checked out, you will be notified by email when your title is available. To find books available right away, go to Advanced Search and check the box "Only show titles with copies available".
  • To use on mobile devices, you will need to install the appropriate app. Visit Overdrive Help to find what you will need to use your device.

Download eAudiobooks

  • First, install the Overdrive Media Console software on your computer before you download books.
  • The publisher of each title determines which formats will be supported for that title. These formats determine whether or not the title will play on your equipment. Be sure to look at the icons displayed with each title to determine if a title will work with your device.
  • The most widely available format in the system is WMA, which plays on Windows computers and most portable players.
  • If you are using a Macintosh computer, you will need to select a title in the MP3 format and not the WMA format. Check the icons on the bottom of each title for compatibility. For a list of titles in the system that are available in MP3 format, see here.
