 Mamie Anthoine Ney, Director

Mamie Anthoine Ney is the Library Director.  Prior to coming to Auburn she was the Maine State Library’s Southern Maine Library District consultant. Previously she was the director at the South Berwick Public Library and the assistant director/adult services librarian at the Kennebunk Free Library.  She received her Master’s in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 2008.She has experience in law, accounting, banking, and manufacturing.  She is married and an avid sports fan (Go Irish!), needleworker, and (of course!) reader. She is a member of the Maine Readers’ Choice Award committee.

Suzanne Sullivan, Assistant Director

Suzanne Sullivan is the Assistant Director for Resource Sharing, Innovation and Staff Development. She has an M.S. in Library Science from Simmons College, and a BA in History from Bowdoin College. She has been at APL since March 2010. Before coming to APL, she was Fiction and Electronic Resources Librarian at Portland Public Library.

Martin Gagnon, Head of Reference and Adult Services

Martin Gagnon, Head of Reference and Adult Services, has relocated with his wife and two boys from Lang Township, Maine.  He comes to the Auburn Public Library with four years experience as Director of the Rangeley Public Library.  A former journalist, Martin is continuing his Library Science studies through the University of Maine at Augusta. An avid skier, camper, snowball artist, and part-time farmer, Martin loves being outside any time of the year.  Martin has always been impressed with the responsiveness of libraries to community needs and expects the community focus of libraries to continue.

Debbie Cleveland, Head of Children's Services

Deb Cleveland, Head of Children’s Services and Family Place Coordinator, has worked in Children’s Services at APL for the past 10 years. In January of 2010, she was appointed as Head of Children’s Services after serving as the department assistant for 5 years. She holds a Masters Degree in Information and Library Science from Drexel University. She has a passion for reading and enjoys being able to bring books and children together. Some of her favorite children authors are Patricia Reilly Giff, Katherine Patterson, Patricia Polacco, Ann Rinaldi, and Cynthia Rylant. Her hobbies include gardening, knitting, and of course reading! She has 2 grown sons, Nate and Ben who were regular library users when they were children. She always enjoyed bringing her children to the library and hopes to provide families who come to the library with a welcoming and positive library experience.

John Kelley, Head of Lending Services

John is an Auburn native who graduated from UMO.  He has been an APL staff member since (the Jurassic Age?) 1973 and is currently head of the Lending Services department.  He also is in charge of library retail sales and the continuing lobby book sale. John is an active Antiques dealer and has been since 1967.

Donna Wallace, Teen and Collaboration Librarian

Donna Wallace, a Turner native, returns home to Maine after living and working at St. Andrew’s School in Delaware for 12 years.  While at St. Andrew’s, she was one of the librarians in the Irene duPont Library, co-Director of the Genereaux Aquatic Center, a dorm parent and an advisor.  She and her husband, Bill, live in Minot and have two daughters, Lyndsay and Selena, and two border collies, Jeb and Leap.  When not reading (an obvious hobby for a librarian!), she enjoys baking and cooking and, in the summer, gardening and camping.
